What is it about the lesser known, hard to find places, that make them an explorer’s dream come true?

Amidst an abundance of Lookout Mountain farmland, visitors will find High Falls Park in Grove Oak, Alabama. A marvel of nature hidden in the mountains of northeast Alabama, the park offers a walking bridge, hiking trails, pavilions, restrooms, and a rustic playground. The perfect place to pack a picnic & spend the day!

Just 10 minutes up the road, you’ll find Morgan’s Cove at Buck’s Pocket State Park. With so much to explore at Buck’s Pocket, Morgan’s Cove is the easy access point to the water. With more boat traffic, there is quite a bit of hustle and bustle. If you have a kayak, there is a great place to launch. Paddle left to find Langston or paddle right to follow the waterways into the State Park.

Our suggestion, make a day of it!

The sunrise from Morgan’s Cove is stunning! Plan to start on an early morning kayak, then head to High Falls for a lunch time swim and finish the day enjoying the serene falls.

Kid Tested, Mother Approved!

At High Falls Park, there are plenty of daredevils around that you can safely watch from a distance, if that’s not your thing. For younger kids, 10 and under, a large portion of the swimming area is less than waist high. The more shallow waterways do lead over the waterfall, so our suggestion is play under and around the bridge. At that point it is very safe, just be aware of a few deeper spots among the rocks.

Morgan’s Cove does house a small boat ramp, so depending on the time of day you visit there could be some traffic. Here, the banks are very calm and easy for strong swimmers to hop in and go deep. Right down the trail (to the left of the dock) you will find a kid friendly rope swing. But, don’t forget all the fun water gear you would typically bring to the pool!

Safety Warning:

Please use caution when visiting. Both spots have a potential for accidents due to slick rocks & waterfall access.
